The 4-Hour Workweek

 

The 4-Hour Workweek is a favorite book among entrepreneurs and all people in general. It is considered a self-help book highlighting how people are overworked and take little vacation time to relax and unwind. Timothy Ferriss who is a graduate of Princeton University was frustrated with his fourteen hour days managing his sports nutrition company. This frustration led him to take a three-week sabbatical to Europe where he developed the idea of the 4-Hour Workweek. The book has been extremely successful, being translated into thirty-five different languages and has over one million copies sold.

 

The Innovator’s Dilemma

 

The Innovator’s Dilemma was written by Clayton Christensen. Christensen talks about how large companies are losing their place in markets with rising small companies at the forefront. Christensen highlights how value and innovation are correlated for large companies. These large companies should look to make iterations to their products to attract their customers back instead of leading them astray to other small niche businesses. The book was received well in the business community and was awarded the Global Business Book Award.

 

Benjamin Franklin: An American Life

 

Benjamin Franklin: An American Life was written by Walter Isaacson. Isaacson writes a detailed narrative of the many adventures and endeavors of Benjamin Franklin. Benjamin Franklin was a scientist, entrepreneur, inventor, statesman and Founding Father. The book discusses how his inventions and practical political power shaped America into what it is today. Elon Musk proclaims that this book is one of his all-time favorites to read.

 

Meditations

 

An old book to consider for all the helpful entrepreneurship books out there now but still just a valuable. Meditations were written by the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius. The book is a collection of essays written by Aurelius and reflects on Stoic philosophy which focuses on accepting things out of your control and mastering things you can control. Founder and CEO of Theranos, Elizabeth Holmes, claims that she read Meditations over and over again before starting up her business.
